Street basketball hits Toowoomba streets
The whistle will be blown on the first game of street basketball in Toowoomba on Wednesday 1 July from 2pm.
Gala Court in Wilsonton will host the first game with other matches to be played in Harlaxton on Friday 3 July and Newtown on Friday 10 July.
A street in each suburb will be closed to host the basketball game for 12 – 17 year olds from the local area during the school holidays.
Local youngsters are invited to come along and have a fun game of basketball in their neighbourhood.
There will also be plenty of room for spectators and cheering squads who are encouraged to line the street and enjoy the game.
The Best and Fairest player of each game will receive a $150 savings account thanks to Heritage Building Society.
The concept is the pet project of Energise – the free fitness and activity program for the greater Toowoomba community.
Energise is a Commonwealth funded project through the Department of Health and Ageing’s Healthy Active Australia Community and Schools grant program.
The program is delivered in the Toowoomba region by the Safer Toowoomba Partnership Inc., Toowoomba Regional Council, Darling Downs Population Health Unit, Department of Communities (Sport & Recreation Services) and Queensland Health.
The program’s aim is to promote fun, fitness and friendships amongst members of local communities.
