Clevins wins street basketball prize
Tameeka Clevins claimed the $150 Heritage Building Society Best and Fairest prize at the street basketball game in Wilsonton yesterday afternoon.
Basketball hoops were erected, lines drawn and players prepped for the first street basketball game on Gala Court this school holiday.
Around 15 youths from the local neighbourhood played three-on-three throughout the afternoon as part of the Energise street basketball program.
The next match will take place on Mooney Street in Harlaxton tomorrow at 2pm.
Polo Street in Newtown will host the third and final game on Friday 10 July at 2pm.
Local youngsters aged between 12-17 years are invited to come along and have a fun game of basketball in their neighbourhood.
There will also be plenty of room for spectators and cheering squads who are encouraged to line the street and enjoy the game.
The concept is the pet project of Energise – the free fitness and activity program for the greater Toowoomba community.
Energise is a Commonwealth funded project through the Department of Health and Ageing’s Healthy Active Australia Community and Schools grant program.
The program is delivered in the Toowoomba region by the Safer Toowoomba Partnership Inc., Toowoomba Regional Council, Darling Downs Population Health Unit, Department of Communities (Sport & Recreation Services) and Queensland Health.
The program’s aim is to promote fun, fitness and friendships amongst members of local communities.
Friday 3 July, Mooney Street, Harlaxton. Game starts 2pm
Friday 10 July, Polo Street, Newtown. Game starts 2pm
